A Carol for the 1914 Christmas Truce

Over the next four years, 2014-18, Anna will be writing various musical responses commemorating the centenary of the First World War. The first of these is a Christmas carol which remembers specifically the ‘Christmas Truce’ of 1914, which saw men of both sides meet peacefully in the middle of No Man’s Land to exchange season’s greetings.

Choirs looking for a way of marking the start of WW1 in their programming for Christmas concerts may well be interested in this piece written specifically for performance in 2014. Whilst the carol is currently being composed, please get in touch to register your interest or to ask any questions. If you are interested in other music suitable for commemorating the Great War, take a look at Come Unto Me (SATB), Anthem for Doomed Youth (baritone solo) or get in touch regarding commissions, either vocal or instrumental.

Vibraphonic Festival 2014

Vibraphonic Festival 2013

Let’s Throw Some Shapes #1 (see previous post) will be performed by Get Rich Quick and the Festival Scratch Orchestra at this year’s Vibraphonic Festival. This is the 10th anniversary year of the music festival which brings the best of reggae, soul, urban, jazz, funk, blues, hip hop, drum & bass, electronica and experimental music to the city of Exeter.

Get Rich Quick and the Festival Scratch Orchestra will be performing Anna’s latest alongside various other guided improvisations as a result of their recent call for scores, with some “utterly spontaneous” music-making thrown in for good measure. Join them at Exeter Phoenix on Wednesday 19 March, 8:30pm. Tickets £5 in advance from lazybirdjazz@hotmail.com or on the door. For more information, see www.vibraphonicfestival.co.uk.
