Summer Singing Day 2016

Following the success of last year’s summer singing day, Peter Nickol and Anna Matthews are once again holding a gathering of singers in Exeter to work through some of their own choral compositions. The date is set for Saturday 3rd September. We are on the look out for keen singers in all voice parts – please get in touch if you are interested in joining us.

A Quiet Night In

A new piece by Anna will be performed at ‘A Quiet Night In’ at Exeter’s Spacex Gallery on Friday 29th January. AQNI is an Exeter new music concert series with a rapidly growing following. Curated by Emma Welton, the programme asks the audience to listen in a new way with a focus on quiet music. Anna’s new piece is under development and will explore this theme.

Tickets for January’s Quiet Night In are available from Exeter Phoenix.

BBC Radio Devon interview

Hear Anna interviewed live on BBC Radio Devon on Remembrance Sunday, talking about From Flanderswww.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02b2mrw . Listen from 1:08:24 (available online until end of Saturday 15th November).

Remembrance Sunday

This Remembrance Sunday, Anna will be in Wokingham to attend the service at St. Paul’s Church. The choir there have been hard at work rehearsing From Flanders and will be giving the world premiere performance.

Anna dedicated From Flanders to the memory of the Potter family of Wokingham, the family of her great-grandmother. The family sent six brothers to war, only 3 of whom returned home, two of those being severely wounded. The significance of the first performance of From Flanders being at St. Paul’s church is front-page news in Wokingham this week: read the story in the Wokingham Times.

Find out more about the Potter family’s own story here. You can also catch Anna talking about From Flanders and her other First World War project, Diary of the Great War, on BBC Radio Devon’s Remembrance Sunday breakfast show (9th November).
